hooray for giant in columbia heights!

i just stopped into the giant in columbia heights for groceries. usually, if i'm going to giant, it's to the one next to the rhode island avenue station, or the one in shaw. suffice it to say, i'm used to terrible service.

not so in columbia heights today!

i just want to give a shout out to cynthia, who was checking me out, and davon, who was bagging. they were like a well-oiled machine, scanning, bagging, and smiling in one fluid movement. i swear i've never had such a good experience checking out of a grocery store in this city.

note to giant: clone these employess now.

wow, you have experienced a MIRACLE - that Giant totally sucks and has the slowest lines in town! try it after work one day and you'll see what I mean. good luck.

well, eileen, guess that means you just have to look for cynthia...

Compared to the other two nearby Giants, this is by far the best. The Brentwood one is a miserable zoo and the O Street one reeks. Columbia Heights' Giant may get busy, but the atmosphere (lack of putrid odor) and availability of products makes it better than the others.

Come on, Eileen.

This Giant is worlds above the others, but I am still disheartened. Why, with such nice, big store in a primo location can't they manage to keep expired food and moldy fruit off the shelves. I mean, seriously. And does anyone else think it looks like a war zone? For a relatively new store, already the walls are scratched and scarred, trash and chewing gum litter the parking deck and customer service is flagging. WHAT HAPPENED? Last night, every bag of walnuts on the shelves was expired (Dec. 2007--newest ones had a sell-by date of Jan 08), blueberries and cherries were moldy, no prices were posted on any of the fruit in the huge bin right in front of the door, and of course there was no one to help. How can a store become so shabby in such a short period of time? It'll soon look just like the old one and people with options will flock to Yes! and Harris Teeter in droves. Please, Giant, get it together. I'm pulling for you--you got off to such a good start…

i'm pulling for giant too, but i just have a feeling that if harris teeter can keep up the great start they've had, there's no way that giant and safeway can keep up their share of the market. they are going to get crushed by the superior service and everything else...
