sobriety checks?

check out these pictures from the corner of 1st and seaton on thursday (february 28th) night:

there were at least two police cruisers on each side of the corner, and officers were walking up and down first street, stopping cars and talking to the drivers. was this a sobriety checkpoint, or where they looking for a fugitive? something else entirely? anyone have an ideas of MPD procedure that would lead them to do this?

This was very strange. The officer who approached my car said they were in the neighborhood doing a "security check" and handed me a flyer that warned me to take my keys out of the car when I pumped gas, and to lock my doors (unclear if that means car or otherwise.) If this is a sign of increased police presence in our neighborhood, I am all for it, but otherwise, it was a seemingly pointless encounter.

Maybe they were having a MPD Ward 5 party? I need to come up with a good commenter/blogger name...

Every couple of months I notice the ward 5 police decide to hang out on my corner for no really important reason. I already feel safe on Seaton. I would like them to patrol my school on T St.
