help me rename the blog
now, the thing is, you don't REALLY get to pick a new name for my blog, but you can vote for a big thing that would influence a new name for the blog. here's how:
last year, i posted about why i named this blog bloomingdale (for now), and i said that i was starting to look for a house to buy. well, it turned out that i didn't have enough to afford anything in this town (shocker, eh?). nearly a year has passed, and in that year, i got a new, higher-paying job, and the real estate market has cooled off a bit, so i'm out on the prowl again.
this is where y'all come in.
i'm looking all over the place, and finding there is stuff that falls in my range in more than a few neighborhoods. there are a few that i'd consider moving to, and i've listed them in the poll below. i'd love to stay in bloomingdale, but there just aren't any single family houses in my range (i'm not interested in a condo). i take that back, i've seen one in my range, but i don't think i'm going to have what it takes to single-handedly gut a house!
so give me your opinion. what neighborhood should i try to buy a house in, and leave a comment about the blog name if you'd like. use the other category if you want to make a pitch for another part of town. maybe bloomingdale (for now) will become rosedale (for good).

What no Truxton Circle?
It may help to point out what you are looking for in a house (bedrooms, size yard, parking, age, distance from Metro, detached, rowhouse, basement, price range, etc) maybe we can point out some places to consider.
most everything in the TC is out of my price range.
i don't really want to post numbers on the blog (gotta keep some level of privacy here).
i will say i'm looking for 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms. preferably a row house. don't need a lot of yard.
You know you want to cross North Capital and live closer to the Red Line, Metropolitan Branch Trail, Eckington Hotel and actual restaurants.

I highly suggest Rosedale. I'm just south of the border into Hill East and there are tons of homes that have been for sale for almost a year. I imagine people are starting to get desperate and lowering prices?

As a resident of Rosedale, I'm surprised (in a good way) to see that neighborhood mentioned, in addition to H St. That may very well be the first time I've seen both mentioned as individual areas! Lots of houses for sale in Rosedale - 4 on my street alone!

people who know me know i'm a stickler about neighborhood names and identities, so you'll never see me referring to rosedale and h street as "capitol hill", or woodridge and michigan park as "brookland". if you listen to some real estate agents in DC, there are 4 or 5 neighborhoods in the whole city. i'm all for more, not less.
Brookland. There's a 3br/2ba house at 14th and Irving NE that has a nice yard and is close to metro and whatnot. Seller is probably desperate too, price has been lowered a few times. Great neighborhood, although I'm biased (I live down the street from the house I mentioned).
I'm going to say Brookland too. It's too nice of a place to pass up.
Where is Rosedale, by the way? This is my first time hearing about it.

rosedale is basically the area just to the northwest of rfk. i'd approximate its boundaries as benning to the north, oklahoma to the east, 15th to the west, and c st NE to the south, with rosedale playground and rec center at the heart of the neighborhood (correct me out there if i'm wrong).
You are correct about the location of Rosedale. There is a new community center slated to be designed and built over the next few years. Design is to begin soon, with construction to follow "soon." There has been $25m allocated by the city for this community center!
you know, i bought in tc about four years ago, but if i was lookin' for a good investment now, i'd be checking out a place withing walking distance to the anacostia or potomac ave metro.
then again, you haven't listed metro access as a must...
Why do you want to buy a house? Do you read the newspapers... 25% drops possible around the country.
If you plan to live in the house for at least 10 years, no problem. Otherwise, think really really really hard before you make the worst financial mistake of your life.
housing bear....i'm not in this to flip a place. DC is my town, i'm trying to put down roots.
the investment part is secondary here.
